Why ABA Parent Training Is Important

When it comes to ABA, it’s easy to assume that you as the parent are not involved in the therapy process of your child. But in reality, you have the opportunity to play one of the most important roles in their process. Parent training is important because it is one of the best ways to ensure that the growth of your child is constant

Why Parent Training Is Important

  • The Behavior Therapist won’t be there all the time
  • The continuation of your child’s treatment outside the therapy sessions will mean they are constantly improving
  • You will learn to recognize and respond from a place of informed insight.

Just because you aren’t a therapist doesn’t mean you can’t help. Parent training gives you real, actionable information on how and why your child is reacting and interacting with the world around them the way that they are. Having the tools to promote positive growth in their natural setting will speed up their process by a country mile and create the perfect home environment for them to adapt in.  You don’t need a degree to be a part of their therapeutic process

What Does Parent Training Look Like?

Parent training at Triangle ABA is provided once a month in a group setting of other parents that also have children who use our ABA services. Group settings allow therapists to not only teach many parents the same lesson at once, but allow the parents themselves to build their own community of other caregivers who get it. This can be helpful in making friends who understand you and can provide advice for similar difficult situations you may have both experienced.

When it comes to your children, parent training looks like increased consistency between their professionally trained ABA therapists and their parents. There will be a smaller gap between what behavior interventions look like inside and outside of sessions. At Triangle ABA our therapists also provide babysitting for your child and their siblings so you can fully focus on learning the lessons being taught in the training session without having to worry about your children. Parent training sessions are also an opportune time to get to know your child’s friends and their parents.
