How Do I Become a BCBA?

Becoming a BCBA requires certification by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB), which you can apply for after completing the appropriate graduate-level coursework and fieldwork. While your master’s degree doesn’t have to be in behavior analysis, you do have to have completed specific types of courses, which you can learn more about in the BCBA Handbook provided by the BACB. The handbook goes into this process in much greater detail.

Once your credentials and documentation have been reviewed and approved (a process that can take up to 45 days), you may schedule your BCBA exam. You’ll be informed of your test results the same day as you take it, and if you pass, you will have earned your certification and can expect to be added to the Certificant Registry within about two weeks.
